Animal Welfare Karpathos is announcing the summer spay/neuter program in partnership with the Greek America Foundation

Animal Welfare Karpathos is honored and ecstatic to announce our partnership with the Greek America Foundation for the launch of the first animal welfare spay-neuter campaign through the foundation’s Greek America Corps. The Greek America Foundation has the outmost respect of Greek Americans for its tremendous philanthropic work in both the USA and Greece. The volunteer program has the support of the mayor, Mr. John Nisyrios, and the City Council of Karpathos.

The program, which will take place on Karpathos island between June 2-23, 2021, was designed pro bono by our co-founder and veterinarian Dr. Anna Katogiritis, and will be funded entirely by the Greek America Foundation. Through the program, university students from the US will have the opportunity to volunteer on the island and learn about Karpathos’ rich traditions while helping the stray animal population that is in dire need. The students will be chosen through a competitive application process and will be required to sit in virtual trainings prior to their arrival on the island. It is estimated that 500 spays/neuters will be performed during the program.

We would like to thank the mayor, Mr. John Nisyrios for his support of the program since its inception. as well as his team, General Secretary Mr. George Skokeas, Mr. George Minakakis and President of the City Council Mr. Manolis Paragios, for their support in organizing this event. In addition, we would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to the President of the village Aperi, Mr. George Pappas who graciously approved the use of two rooms in his village for the spays and neuters. Finally, we are thankful to the City Council members for unanimously approving the spaces to be used for the program during their town hall meeting on December 15th, 2020.

On behalf of all of the Animal Welfare Karpathos volunteers, we would like to thank all of our supporters throughout the years, who have helped the animals on the island either by donating, adopting, or by individually rescuing animals in need. Thanks to the dedication of past and present volunteers, thousands of animals have already been saved, and we are planning to continue this lifesaving work until there are no more animals in need!
